چکیده

that every single material derived from silicon chemistry seems extremely modern. Silicon occurs naturally in sand and rocks, generally in the form of silica and silicate, and is the second most abundant element on earth after oxygen. Only crystalline silicon and the silanes and organosiloxanes are truly modern products: they do not occur freely in nature, but are entirely the product of human invention. Table l outlines the terminology relating to the most common silicon derivatives. In the medical industry, the term "silicone" refers to polydimethylsiloxane derivatives and to those compounds of which they are the principal constituents.

Comparison of Six Different Silicones In Vitro for Application as Glaucoma Drainage Device

Silicones are widely used in medical applications. In ophthalmology, glaucoma drainage devices are utilized if conservative therapies are not applicable or have failed. Long-term success of these devices is limited by failure to control intraocular pressure due to fibrous encapsulation. Therefore, different medical approved silicones were tested in vitro for cell adhesion, cell proliferation an...

Silicones in the rehabilitation of burns: a review and overview.

This article gives an overview of the use of silicones in the treatment and prevention of hypertrophic (burn related) scars. Of all non-invasive treatment modalities the use of continuous pressure and occlusive contact media, e.g. silicones, seem to be generally accepted as the only ones that are able to manage hypertrophic scarring without significant side-effects. A summary of the current opi...

11. Silicones in the Electronics Industries

Before 1943, planes could maintain high altitudes for only a few minutes before ignition losses due to moisture condensing in the engines. A simple thickened PDMS grease was the solution and an early example of the excellent dielectric properties of silicones. This application also illustrates key properties of silicones in the electronic industries like hydrophobicity and high dielectric break...

Study of properties of modified silicones at solid-liquid interface: fabric-silicone interactions.

Silicones are special reagents that impart desired surface properties such as softness, bounciness and antiwrinkle properties to fabrics and related materials. Although these finishing processes have been practiced routinely, very little is known about the mechanisms involved in modification so that they could be improved. The current study was undertaken to develop basic understanding of the m...
